Publishing individual files to Collaborate

Excluding Assets from publishing to Collaborate

In some cases, you might want to exclude certain Assets in your Project from publishing to the cloud. Collaborate uses a gitignore file, named .collabignore, to exclude files.

To add your own exclusions to the .collabignore file:

  1. Locate the .collabignore file in the root of your Project file. If you don’t see this file, see the instructions below to display hidden files.
  2. Use the GitIgnore documentation to edit the .collabignore file and add your new rules. You can edit the file in any text editor.
  3. Publish your .collabignore file changes in Collaborate to share your exclusions with the rest of your team.

Displaying hidden files

If you can’t see the .collabignore file, or the Asset files you want to exclude, your system may be configured to hide system files. Windows and Macs hide system files by default.

Windows

To display hidden files in Windows 10 and above:

  1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
  2. Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
  3. Select the View tab, then Advanced settings.
  4. Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, then select OK.

For details, see Windows support.

MacOS

To display hidden files in MacOS:

  1. Navigate to the root directory of your Project.
  2. Display the files as a list
    FilePicker
  3. Press the Shift+Command+Period keys to toggle system files between hidden and visible.

For details, see Macintosh support

Files that you cannot exclude

There are Project files and folders that you can never exclude from Collaborate using the .collabignore file. These are:

  • The .collabignore file.
  • The Assets folder (although you can exclude specific files or folders within the Assets folder.)
  • The Project Settings folder.
  • Any .asset file inside the Project Settings folder.
  • ProjectVersion.txt within the Project Settings folder.
