Overlays preferences reference

Customize these settings to set the background color of overlays for each Editor window that supports them.

To open these preferences, go to Edit > Preferences > Overlays (macOS: Unity > Settings > Overlays).

Scene View

The SceneA Scene contains the environments and menus of your game. Think of each unique Scene file as a unique level. In each Scene, you place your environments, obstacles, and decorations, essentially designing and building your game in pieces. More info

Setting Description
Use Default Resets the Overlay Background color for that window to the default for the active Editor Theme.
Overlay Background Sets the background color of floating overlays in the Scene viewAn interactive view into the world you are creating. You use the Scene View to select and position scenery, characters, cameras, lights, and all other types of Game Object. More info

. The default is a translucent dark gray for the Dark theme, and a translucent light gray for the Light theme.
