Define the shape and density of your groom

Use a paint mesh and the Paint attributes tool to define where hair grows.

For more information, refer to the Paint attributes tool and the Paint attributes tool settings.

    Create a paint mesh

    To create a paint mesh:

    1. Select the Fur node.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • In the Wig Grooming shelf, select Create Paint Mesh .
      • From the Wig menu, in the Strands section, select Paint > Create Paint Mesh.
    Note

Use the Create Paint Mesh Options to change the subdivision level of the paint mesh for a higher fidelity groom.

    Define where hair grows

Clear the default growth then paint where you want hair to grow.

    To clear the default growth:

    1. Select the paint mesh.
    2. In the Tool Settings, under Paint Attributes, select DensityScale > Paint DensityScale.
    3. Set the Value to 0.0.
    4. Select Flood.

    To paint the hair:

    1. Select the paint mesh.
    2. In the Tool Settings, under Paint Attributes, select DensityScale > Paint DensityScale.
    3. Set the Value to 1.0.
    4. Adjust the Radius to change the size of the brush.
    5. Modify other Paint attributes tool settings as necessary.
    6. Paint where you want hair to grow.
    Tip

To paint symmetrically on both sides of the surface, under Stroke, enable Reflection.

    Tip

To make it easier to see the brush, turn off the strand display (Wig > Display > Toggle Strand Display).

    Note

After you paint the values, you can remove the paint mesh. If you need to make any changes to the density later, you can create another paint mesh.
