Declaration

public static string AssetPathToGUID(string path);

Parameters

path Filesystem path for the asset.

Returns

string GUID.

Description

Get the GUID for the asset at path.

All paths are relative to the project folder, for example: "Assets/MyTextures/hello.png".

using UnityEngine;
using UnityEditor;

public class Example : MonoBehaviour { [MenuItem("AssetDatabase/AssetPathToGUID")] static void Doit() { string t = AssetDatabase.AssetPathToGUID("Assets/texture.jpg"); Debug.Log(t); } }

If the asset does not exist AssetPathToGUID will return nothing. However, recently deleted assets return a GUID until the Unity Editor is restarted. See AssetDatabase.GUIDFromAssetPath for a version that returns a UnityEditor.GUID instead of a string.
