    Curl the hair

    To make curly hair:

    • Create a Coil node.
    • Clump and resize the curves.
    • Shape the curls.
    • Increase the CV count.

For more information, refer to Coil tool and Coil attributes.

    Create a Coil node

    To create a Coil node:

    1. Select the Fur node and curve(s).
    2. Do one of the following:
      • In the Wig Grooming shelf, select Create Coil, Connect and Extract Curves .
      • From the Wig menu, in the Coils section, select Create Coil, Connect and Extract Curves.
    Note

The Create Coil, Connect and Extract Curves property creates a Coil node, connects all curves to the node, and creates a set of coil output curves. If you select Create Coil, you must manually connect the curves to the node and extract the output curves.

    Clump and resize curves

To create curls from the Coil node, you need to create clumps from the output curves. Once you clump the curves, resize the strands to the same length as the clump curve.

    To clump the output curves:

    1. Select the Fur node and the individual coil output curves (not the group).
    2. Do one of the following:
      • In the Wig Grooming shelf, select Create Clump from Curves .
      • From the Wig menu, in the Clumps section, select Create Clump from Curves.

To resize the clump strands to match the clump curve:

    1. From the clump curve set, select the individual coil output curves (not the group).
    2. From the Wig menu, in the Clumps section, select Edit > Reset Strands Length to Clump Curve.

    Shape the curls

There are many ways to change the size and shape of the curls. Refer to Shape the curls to explore the options.

    Increase the CV count

The Fur node has a default CV count of 12. For smoother coils, increase the CV count. We recommend a value of at least 48.

    To increase the CV count:

    1. Select the Fur node.
    2. In the Attribute Editor, under Strands, edit CVs Per Strand.
