Access Unity AI features from the AI menu

Use the AI menu to access and manage Unity AI: Unity’s artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools, such as Inference Engine, Assistant, and Generators.

Inference Engine integrates AI models running on your local machine in the Unity Editor or runtime applications on end-user devices.

Assistant provides generative AI-powered guidance for game development tasks. Use it to generate code, troubleshoot issues, and automate repetitive tasks.

Generators provide generative AI asset creation. The AI menu provides access to the following generators:

To monitor your AI usage, manage point balance, and configure organization-level settings, go to the Unity Dashboard AI settings. For more information, refer to the Unity Dashboard AI settings documentation.

Prerequisites

Before you can use the AI menu and Unity AI features in the Unity Editor, ensure the following:

  • You must install Unity 6.2.
  • You must agree and accept the terms and conditions on the AI menu in the Unity Editor.
  • Your project must be linked to a Unity Cloud project.

Use the AI menu

The AI menu provides access to the Unity AI features and account management options.

To open the AI menu, follow these steps:

  1. In the Unity Editor, select AI from the toolbar.

  2. If you’re a first-time user, do the following:

    1. Read the terms and conditions associated with Unity AI, including third-party integrations.
    2. Select Agree and install Unity AI to activate AI features and install the packages.
  3. After activation, the AI menu shows the following options:

    • Points
    • See what’s new
    • Check for updates
    • Open Assistant
    • Generate new
      • Animation
      • Material
      • Sound
      • SpriteA 2D graphic objects. If you are used to working in 3D, Sprites are essentially just standard textures but there are special techniques for combining and managing sprite textures for efficiency and convenience during development. More info

  4. Select Open Assistant to start using Assistant.

  5. Select Generate new to create an asset with a generator.

Show or hide the AI menu

You can control whether the AI menu appears in the Unity Editor toolbarA row of buttons and basic controls at the top of the Unity Editor that allows you to interact with the Editor in various ways (e.g. scaling, translation). More info

. To show or hide the AI menu as an option in the toolbar, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Windows: Select Edit > Preferences > General > Hide AI Menu (macOS: Unity > Settings > General > Hide AI Menu).
  2. Enable Hide AI Menu to remove the AI menu from the toolbar or disable it to show the AI menu.

Note: This setting only controls whether the AI menu is visible in the toolbar. It doesn’t uninstall or disable the AI features. If you have installed and enabled AI tools, you can still access them through other parts of the Editor.
