Install and uninstall Editor versions
You can use the Unity Hub to install and uninstall supported and archived versions of the Unity Editor.
This guide helps you to set up the Unity Editor for the first time or to reinstall the Unity Editor.
Install an Editor via the Hub
To install a version of the Editor through the Hub, do the following:
Install the Hub if you haven't done so.
Go to Installs in the left sidebar.
Select Install Editor.
This opens a window that displays the official releases that are available to install. The first section contains the long term support (LTS) releases, which provide a stable foundation for projects. You can also view Editors in the alpha and beta stages if you select Pre-releases.
To install one of these versions, select Install.
This opens a pop-up window where you can select modules to install with the Editor.
Select any modules you want.
Select Install.
This opens the Downloads manager where you can see the progress of your installation.
For information on how to manage and change the install location of your Editors, see Preferences.
Note: If you want to be a beta tester for the Unity Editor and have earlier access to new features and improvements, you can select the Beta program webpage link at the bottom of the Install Editors window for more information.
Install an archived Unity Editor version
If the Hub doesn't display the specific Editor version that you need, do the following:
Go to Archive.
Select the link for the download archive.
This webpage shows all previous versions of the Unity Editor that are available to install.
To install versions 5.6.0 and up and add them to the Hub, select Unity Hub.
In the window that opens, select Install to install your chosen Editor version and modules.
Note: You can also add modules after you install the Editor through the Hub.
Add a manually downloaded Editor to the Hub
You can add a version of the Editor from your local disk if you have already downloaded the files. To add the pre-downloaded version, do the following:
Select Locate.
This opens your system's file manager at the default installation location for Unity program files.
Browse to locate your file.
Select Select Editor to add it to the Hub.
Locate the Editor program file
You might want to know where the Editor is installed on your computer, such as when you need to:
Launch the Editor from the command line
Manage your license from the command line
Run diagnostics scripts to produce log files for support
To locate a specific instance of a Unity Editor, do the following:
Open the Unity Hub.
Select Installs in the left sidebar.
The Hub lists each installed Editor and displays the path to the Editor application.
Identify the specific Editor in the list of installs, and take note of its location.
Use your operating system's file management application to go to the location you identified.
Note: You can also select the gear icon to open the contextual menu and select Show in Explorer (Windows) or Reveal in Finder (macOS).
On macOS, when you get to the
Unity.app
file, right-click it and select Show Package Contents to see the full application structure.
Uninstall an Editor version
To uninstall an Editor version through the Hub, do the following:
Right-click the version or select the gear icon to open the contextual menu.
Select Uninstall from the dropdown.
The uninstall option is applicable for Editor versions that you installed through the Hub. For versions of the Editor that you installed manually and located through the Hub, you can select Remove to remove the version from the Hub, but this leaves the files on your disk. To remove the files, you need to navigate to the file path of the Editor and manually delete the Editor folder.
