Import and preview video clips

Import, preview, and view source information of video clips in your application.

A video clip asset is an imported video file, which you can reference in the Video Player component to play video content in your application.

This information covers using video clip assets only. To use the Video Clip Importer, refer to Video Clip. To transcode video clips, refer to Video transparency support.

Import your file as a video clip

To import your file as a video clip, do one of the following:

  • Click and drag a video file into the Assets folder.
  • Go to Assets > Import New Asset and select a video file.

Next, configure your Video Clip Importer properties or reference the video clip in the Video Player.

Preview your video clip

To preview your video clip in Unity:

  1. Select the video clip to open the InspectorA Unity window that displays information about the currently selected GameObject, asset or project settings, allowing you to inspect and edit the values. More info

  2. Go to the preview pane at the bottom of the Inspector window.
  3. Click the Play button in the top-right corner of the preview pane.

After you click the Play button, a preview of the video clip and its first audio track plays.

View the source information of your video clip

To view the source information of your video clip in Unity:

  1. Select the video clip to open the Inspector window.
  2. Go to the preview pane at the bottom of the Inspector window.
  3. Click the name of the video clip in the top-left corner of the preview pane.
  4. Select Source Info.

After you select Source Info, you can view information about your video clip, such as its size, duration, frames, and pixelsThe smallest unit in a computer image. Pixel size depends on your screen resolution. Pixel lighting is calculated at every screen pixel. More info
