    Manage your templates

    Project templates provide pre-selected settings based on common best practices for different types of projects. These optimize your settings for 2D and 3D projects across the full range of platforms that Unity supports.

    To create a project in the Hub, you need to select a template with which to open your Project. To see what packages are in each template, select Read more and then select the Packages tab in the window that opens.

    This page contains an overview of the three categories of template: Core, Sample and Learning.

    Core templates

    Template name: Function: Platforms supported:
    2D Configures project settings for 2D applications that use Unity’s Built-In Render Pipeline. iOS, Android, Linux, macOS, WebGL, Windows
    3D Configures project settings for 2D applications that use Unity’s Built-In Render Pipeline. iOS, Android, Linux, macOS, WebGL, Windows
    VR Configures settings for a Virtual Reality application, using a sample scene, assets, and the recommended packages and settings. Windows
    AR Configures settings for an Augmented Reality application, using a sample scene, assets, and the recommended packages and settings. iOS, Android
    3D Mobile Configures settings for 3D mobile development, using the recommended packages. iOS, Android
    2D Mobile Configures settings for 3D mobile development, using the recommended packages. iOS, Android

    Sample templates

    Template name: Function: Platforms supported:
    3D Sample Scene (HDRP) Configures settings for high-end graphics, using the High Definition Render Pipeline. It also includes: Shader Graph, Visual Effect Graph, presets and example content. macOS, Windows
    3D Sample Scene (URP) Configures settings for performance, wide platform support and customizable graphics, using the Universal Render Pipeline and Shader Graph. iOS, Android, Linux, macOS, WebGL, Windows
    Autoshowroom Configures project settings with physically correct lighting and a sample car, using the High Definition Render Pipeline and presets. macOS, Windows

    Learning templates

    Learning templates are preloaded with scenes, scripts and tutorials to help you learn the basics of the Unity Editor. For more information on learning resources, go to the Unity Learn website.

    LEGO® Microgame Allows you to customize and add to a LEGO®-themed 3D game. macOS, WebGL, Windows
    2D Platformer Microgame Opens with a platform game that you can customize and add mods to. macOS, WebGL, Windows
    Karting Microgame Allows you to customize and build on a pre-made 3D racing game. macOS, WebGL, Windows
    FPS Microgame Opens a basic 3D first person shooter game that you can mod and customize. macOS, WebGL, Windows

    Update your template

    If an update is available for a template you previously installed, its tile displays the option Update. You can either download the update or continue using the installed version of the template.

    Tip: Check for updates on your templates when you switch Editor versions.
