Unity Muse will be retired on October 1, 2025. It is being replaced by Unity AI, available in Unity 6.2 and later. For the latest tools and documentation, refer to the Unity AI documentation.

    Style trainer

When you generate sprites, you can use a style to influence the look of the generated sprites. The Muse Sprite tool provides several default styles to generate sprites based on them. You can also train your own styles.

    Create a style

    1. In Unity, from the menu, select Muse > Style Trainer.

    2. Select + New to create a new style.

A new style appears in the Styles panel.

    3. Enter a Style Name and Description for your style.

      Note

Once created, you can't modify the style name and description.

    Train a style

To train your own styles, use the Style Trainer to set the Training Images and Practice Prompts:

    • Training Images are reference images to indicate the style that you want. To train a style, 5 to 15 reference images are required.
    • Practice Prompts serve as a validation to showcase the result of the prompt. You can specify a maximum of three prompts.
    1. In the Training Images section, drag an image from your Unity Project > Assets folder or select + to import an image.

      Note
      • You can't add duplicated images.
      • Image size must be between `128 x 128` and `512 x 512` pixels. Images that are smaller or larger than the value are resized automatically.
      • Use of an alpha channel in an image isn't supported. Any alpha channel information are automatically removed.

      Example prompts for sample output

    2. Enter the sample output prompts in the Practice Prompts section.

The Practice Prompts section consists of three fields where you can specify different examples to generate sample images. It shows how well the trained style can create each specified object. For example, you might enter Sword, Shield, and Iron Helmet to check how your trained style handles these different but related objects.

    3. Select Train Style.

[NOTE] Training a style might take several minutes to complete.

    Validate a style

After training, the Style Trainer generates ten rounds of the trained style, each generated with 100 training step increments. In this sequence, round 1 is trained for 100 steps, round 2 for 200 steps, and progressively up to round 10.

Each round is generated with the training images for the practice prompts. You need to validate if the style is good for style generation and choose the best one that matches your desired style.

    To validate the style:

    1. Review the generated images in each round.
    2. Compare the output to determine which round best matches your desired style.
    3. Choose the most appropriate round based on its alignment with your style goals.

This validation ensures that you select the trained style that best fits your project's needs.

    Images to train style

To show a style in the New Sprite Generator's style list, select Publish Style in the Style Trainer window.

Each style can go through different statuses that indicate its current state in the training lifecycle. The possible statuses are:

    Status Description Next step
Untrained The style hasn't undergone any training rounds. Use machine learning to train the style for sprite generation.
Training The style is currently being trained. The training process is ongoing and the style isn't yet ready for use.
Trained The style has completed the necessary training rounds but it's not yet available in the style list in the New Sprite Generator window. Use the style to generate sprites.
Published The trained style meets the required standards and has been published. It's available in the style list in the New Sprite Generator window. Use the style for sprite generation across various projects.
Not Loaded This happens after a domain reload to ensure that the Style Trainer window has the correct data. Load the style if you need to use it.
Loading This happens when the Style Trainer window is in process of loading the data. Wait for the loading process to complete before attempting to use the style.
Error If there's an issue during training, the style might indicate an error status. Debug or retrain the style to resolve the issue.
    Note

You can't change the sample output prompts or the reference images after a style is trained.

    Mark a style as favorite

To mark a style as favorite, which then becomes a thumbnail, follow these steps:

    1. In the Selected Training Round section, move your cursor over the style.

A star icon appears on the top-right side of the image.

    2. Select the star icon.

The selected style becomes a thumbnail and is displayed in the Styles list in the Style Trainer window.

Use a specific round of a style

By default, the latest round is used. To use a specific round of the style, select Select Different Round from the Selected Training Round section in the Style Trainer window.

    Style rounds

    Duplicate a style

If you want to start a new style with the current training images and practice prompts, follow these steps:

    1. Select the style from the Styles list in the Style Trainer window.
    2. Right-click the selected style to open the context menu.
    3. Select Duplicate.

    Hide a style

To hide a style from showing in the New Sprite Generator's style list, select the style from the Styles list in the Style Trainer window and select Unpublish Style.

    Delete a style

To delete a style, select the style from the Styles list in the Style Trainer window and select Delete Style. This deletes the style from the server.

    Note

You can only delete styles that aren't trained.

Use a style in Muse Sprite Generator

To use a style, when you generate sprites in the New Sprite Generator window, select the style from the Style and Parameters list.
