    Generate levels of details at import

    Generate up to five levels of detail (LODs) when importing files. Pixyz adds a Unity LOD group. Read more about LODs and LOD groups in Unity.

    Add LODs

    1. Select Create LODs.

    2. Select an LOD mode.

      Parameter Description
      Root Mode The LOD group is placed on the root node of the imported model. Select this option to control the global visibility of the entire imported model at once.
      Leaves Mode Default option. The LOD group is placed on the parent node of each mesh or object that exists in the hierarchy. Select this option to control the visibility of each subpart of the imported model.
    3. To add or remove an LOD, select an existing LOD, and then right-click and select an option.

      You can add up to five LODs. The mesh quality of a new LOD is set to a lower mesh quality than the previous LOD.****

    4. For each LOD, select the LOD and choose a quality level.

      The first LOD is LOD 0 and isn't optimized. All other LODs are optimized based on LOD 0.

      LOD 0 keeps the previously defined Mesh Quality preset.

      For meshes, if you select the maximum quality preset, no optimization is run.

    5. Adjust the threshold percentage for each transition between two LODs.

      The percentage value represents the maximum visible proportion of a part or model when the camera moves forward or backward before switching to the next LOD, until it is culled.

    Tip

    If you set up five LODs, set the first LOD to very high quality. If you set up four LODs, set the first LOD to high quality, and so on.

    Pixyz creates LODs differently based on whether you create them from CAD models (exact geometry) or tessellated models (mesh geometry):

    • CAD model:
      1. Pixyz creates LOD 0 through tessellation.
      2. Pixyz creates the following LODs as reduced versions of LOD 0, through decimation.
    • Mesh model: Pixyz creates LODs by optimizing, that is, decimating, the initial mesh file or LOD 0. For meshes, we recommend that you use the best quality for LOD 0, so as to create the following LODs from a sufficiently-defined mesh.
