    Backplates

Backplates are realistic background environments that you can use for your shots. Unlike 3D environments, backplates are static images that don't change with the camera view.

    General settings

    Setting Description
Match aspect ratio to backplate Match the aspect ratio of the camera view to the aspect ratio of the backplate.
Hide backplate Disable the visibility of the backplate in the viewport.
Offset Move the backplate horizontally and vertically in the camera view.
Scale Enlarge the backplate in the camera view.

Note that post processing is not applied to backplates, only to the product.

    Match Perspective

To match the perspective of the camera view with the perspective depicted in the backplate, select Match Perspective. The match perspective toolset opens.

    Vanishing point lines

To establish the perspective in the backplate, place each set of vanishing point lines on a set of parallel lines in the image. For the parallel lines, use structural elements such as walls and sidewalks.

Note: If your image doesn't have clear parallel lines, use the gizmo or the toolbar instead of vanishing points.

By default, one set of vanishing point lines represents the x-axis and the other represents the z-axis. You can change the relevant plane (for example, from the XZ plane to the XY plane) using the Plane dropdown in the toolbar.

    Gizmo

The XYZ coordinate gizmo represents the world origin and view orientation. Use the gizmo to move, rotate, and scale your product. The camera adjusts automatically.

    Toolbar

You can adjust the camera view in detail using the toolbar.

    Setting Description
Plane Specify the world plane represented by the intersection of the vanishing point lines.
FOV Edit the field of view of the camera.
Mirror plane axis Flip the direction of the plane axis.
Snap to ground Move the product to the world origin.
Reset Revert the world to its previous state before entering perspective match.
Cancel Discard all changes and close the perspective match toolset.
Apply Save all changes and close the perspective match toolset.

    Reflection maps

When using backplates, reflection maps can enhance the lighting of your product and help it blend with the scene.

To generate a basic reflection map, right-click on your backplate.
